Although House of the Spirits and House of Bernarda are both female dominated books with a similar cultural background, their portrayals of the mother figures are extremely different. Bernarda from In House of Bernarda Alba by Federico Garcia, the mother is presented as domineering tyrant who is ignorant of her daughters needs, who is unfit as a nurturing mother. In House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, although Clara the main mother figure is presented as distant and is if in a world of her own. Both authors present their mothers through tradition, the relationships they have with their children and as representatives of different political beliefs; Bernarda as a fascist ruler and Clara as a liberal. In both texts the mothers ability to be nurturing are seen through their relationships with their children. There is a strong connection between Clara and her daughter, Blanca. Despite the grotesque images of Blanca after her birth, in which she is described as a cruel joke House of the Spirits, Isabel Allende, 101 Blanca is an uglier, hairier child than usual Allende, 101, Clara continues to show her maternal instinct as an archetypal mother to a certain extent. Also, Bernardas unstable relationship with her daughters reflects Lorcas satire of the mother-child and political relationship, since Bernarda is seen as a mother and as a dictator. The effects of Claras death emphasize how important she has been even at the moments when her presence was not actively felt. The wilting of the flowers House of the Spirits, Isabel Allende, 280 and the death of the plants represent her subtle presence as the life force of the family. The description of Clara during her life suggests that she herself probably did not remember to water the plants on a regular basis. Clara did however talk to the plants and flowers and cared for their well being. Clara had cared for all living things, although she may have temporarily forgotten, about them she still provided them with care. The deterioration of the house as a whole after Claras passing demonstrates, how nurturing her presence was. In each of the books the characters represent a different political opinion. Bernarda and Clara represent opposite opinions of the political system. Bernardas domineering tyrannical nature represents the fascistic leader of Spain, while Clara represents the more liberal opinion. The oppression of her daughters causes them to rebel and although there are no men introduced in the play, they become dependent on them. Also, since Bernarda behaves like a man it could explain why the daughters become so dependent and afraid of men. They are too afraid to rebel against their mother, other than Adela, because they have become dependent on her wealth. On the other hand, in House of the Spirits Clara is seen as the liberal, rebel figure. However, in House of the Spirits, despite that Clara had died before the book had ended there is a resolution, the reader is shown that all conflicts are resolved and that there is hope for the characters. The House of the Spirits mainly depicts the growth of the feminine consciousness over many generations. Allendes mother figures do not fit societys stereotypical expectations and they are uniquely strong. They are able to emotionally and spiritually provide for their children and also are able to gain insight on their lives by escaping societys harshness through their relationships. As Erich Fromm once said the mother-child relationship is paradoxical and, in a sense, tragic. It requires the most intense love on the mothers side, yet this very love must help the child grow away from the mother, and to become fully independent.

My experience at UT was further enhanced by my earlier diploma in English Language in Orlando which was my first step in to the diverse and multicultural world. Even though I had travelled to various places previously, such as Europe, North America, Africa and Asia for vacations, never had I encountered as a diverse a place as the U.S.A. This short educational experience  ­Ã‚ ­has developed my cross-communication skills which are necessary for survival for any profession in the modern workplace. Furthermore, my experience at UT as a Finance student has helped me relate finance with everyday life. Previously I perceived finance as a strictly specialized and confined domain. Most importantly, I could relate most of the concepts to the recent financial downturn which turned around the economies of most advanced nations such as U.K and U.S. I was able to understand how most economies work and how the public and government policies jointly determine the state of economy in most countries. Even though I still endeavor to understand complex financial models and theorems, I do not have much difficulty in understanding the conceptual content and application. In the contemporary age of advanced information systems, I believe the competitive advantage of a Finance professional does not lie in the reproduction of models or calculations but the conceptual analysis and interpretation of those in the context of real-life scenarios. Considering that I had been an out-station student studying in UT in U.S.A, I have gained insight into the demands of an academic and professional life. Since I was in-charge of everything and had to do everything on my own, I learnt to take my own initiatives and gradually became independent. Heterocyclics are largely categorized as unsaturated and saturated heterocyclics, depending on their structures(Pfaltz&Drury, 2004). The core focuses of heterocyclic compound studies are the unsaturated derivatives of 5- and 6- membered rings, their applications and their predominance of low-numbered rings. Among the 5- and 6-membered unsaturated heterocyclics are pyridine, thiophene, pyrrole and furan. Similarly studied to a large extent are benzene-fused rings of these 5- and 6- membered unsaturated heterocyclics(Nakamura et al., 1998). These benzene-fused derivatives are quinoline, benzothiophene, indole, and  benzofuran for pyridine, thiophene, pyrrole, and furan respectively. The following are structures of a heterocyclic and a homocyclic compounds namely pyridine, a heterocycli c and cyclo-octasulfur, a homocyclic compound. From the structures of these compounds it is evident that the C-H bond is quite important in their reactions. In fact, it is the activation of this C-H bond that allows for the formation and introduction of other functionality groups/bonds such as M-C or C-C bonds to heterocyclic compounds(Benudhar et al., 2013). Pyridine Cyclo-octasulfur, The core theme in organometallic chemistry is the construction and transformation of metal-carbon bonds. Consequently, most of researches and literatures seem to focus on the traditional M-C bonds formed using the tetravalent carbon bond. However, fewer researchers have concentrated on non-traditional M-C bonds, often referred to as M-C cage bonds, which are found in carborane cages in which the carbon is hypervalent(Nakamura et al., 1998). This paper explores the reactivity of M-C bonds and outlines a plan for the catalytic formation of heterocyclics via the catalytic activation of the M-C bond. Spec ifically, the aim of this paper is the synthesis of some ligands that contain heterocycles or vinyl groups that can undergo C-H activation to form cyclometallated complexes(Benudhar et al., 2013). Further, the paper investigates the reactivity of the cyclometallated complexes with alkynes and alkenes. Thus, the goal is to assess the relative reactivity of different types of M-C bonds. One of the methods used in the catalytic synthesis of heterocycles is the amphibilic metal ligand activation (AMLA). In the AMLA process, the steps in the activation of the C-H bond entail the use of an electrophilic metal in combination with a deprotonation using an intramolecular base, frequently acetate. Chiral ligands are chemical compounds adapted for and largely used in the asymmetric synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Chiral ligands are pure organic enantiomers that combine with metallic centers through the process of chelation to yield asymmetric catalysts(Nakamura et al., 1998). It is this c atalyst that later engages in the chemical reaction in which the chirality of a ligand is transferred to the product of the reaction. You are basically clarifying everything presented in the trial from showing the relevance of a particular witness to showing how everything you’ve presented comes together to prove your case. It is one of the most important parts of mock trial, mainly because the jury listens. It is the last chance to convince the judges of your case, to show you are more skilled than your opponent, and get the perfect 10 you’re hoping for because they are the last words the jury will hear from your team. It can make your case, or break it, thus delivery is very important. Writing the Closing Theme An important part of a great closing is the theme. It will tie your case together in a pretty ribbon that will stay in the juries mind. It will be the same theme from the opening, one that runs through your entire case, and in the closing reminding the jury of your case with the catchy phrase or sentence. Structure 1)Introduction: Begin with a short introduction that catches the jury’s attention. It should remind the judges of the big picture. In 1901, an Boston based invertor group opened up a steel mill on the southeast side of Sydney harbor in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This mill was named DISCO, or Dominion Iron and Steel Company Limited, which was ultimately a subsidiary of DOMCO, or the Dominion Coal Company Limited. DOMCO coal was mined in Dominion, near Glace Bay and was used to make coke. Coke is a hard, grey, porous material, man-made from the coal and is used to fuel the blast furnaces for smelting the iron ore. (Coke (fuel), 2012) DOMCO along with DISCO merged with the Nova Scotia Steel and Coal Company or SCOTIA to from the British Empire Steel Corporation or BESCO in 1920. The company soon reorganized and in 1930 under the name Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation or DOSCO. In 1957 it was purchased by Toronto based aircraft manufacturing company, A.V. Roe Canada and in 1962 was once again sold, this time to Hawker Siddeley Canada, where it become a subsidiary. (Sydney Steel Corporation, 29) Hawker Siddeley ran the company smoothly until 1965 when they decided to eliminate all money moving operations. It was also around this time that it was announced that there were only around 15 operational years left for the Sydney coalmines and that after this opening new mines would be too expensive and that DOSCO would be getting out of the coal mining industry. The Sydney mill was very outdated compared to other mills in western and central Canada at this time. After an outcry for Cape Breton County residence, Prime Minister Lester B. Pearson, announced the creation of the Donald Commision led by J.R. Donald. The job of this commission was to launch a inquiry into the Cape Breton coal industry. The effects of Performance on Audience

Music soothes and relaxes the mind of audiences. It is one way of showcasing talent and at the same time give entertainment. An exquisite performance can eventually bring audiences to a moment of joy or sorrow. It depends upon the performer’s capability and musical knowledge. The goal of every performance is to catch the audience attention and at the same time absorb the theme or message as a whole. Although there are performance for a cause, the main point of having a performance is to keep the crowd alive and in union with the performer. A boring performance will eventually lead to audience walk out. It is also important for the performance to be adaptive to the audience. This way the listener’s musical interest is kept intact. The effects of performing on audience also boost the confidence and moral of the performer. A performer who stands in front of a crowd lively and intelligently assures that the flow of the performance is best. More audiences may trigger the performer’s nervousness and stage fright but this is the usual feeling of performers. After having performed many times, the performer will get use with the feeling and sees himself/herself not afraid anymore. Performing on audience also helps in looking for positive and negative traits of the performer. It will be based on the feed backs after the show which is given by jurors if it is a competition or by critics if it is just a program, concert r performance. Over all the effect of performing on audience is to know what makes the performer stand out and what needs to be improved. A performer’s attitude is also seen when performing before audiences. This is on how he/she relates with the kind of crowd. There are instances that the performance is held on a strange place and it is for the performer to adjust to the environment and continue the show without getting distracted and keeping his/her focus. Regardless of who your audiences are, you are compelled to perform with the best of your abilities. Performers often finds themselves having goose bumps and cold feelings upon seeing audiences but then it will also make them more motivated to perform. Performing also inhibits positivism on the performance and the perception of musical expression by the performer.

Verbal And Nonverbal Forms Of Communication - 1768 Words

1. According to the score table in section 1, my weakest skill is communication, I assessed myself with 100 points, but I only receive 9 on this skill. The gap is the biggest among all these assessed skills, which is -91. Lack of effective expression in the group meeting is one of my problems during this activity. This includes both verbal and nonverbal forms of communication. My writing skill is not that strong could also be a problem for this low score. I give myself 50 on initiative skill, and I receive 63 on it, the gap was 13. Decision-making is one of my weak skills, I self-assess a score of 50, but I only score 7 on this skill. The gap is -43, which indicates really big over over estimation of myself. Communication is an ability to transfer information accurately, clearly to others in both life and work, basically in every aspect of people’s life. It is interesting because it could have different forms, such as vocally, written, visually or non-verbally. It is challenging to change because it needs practice, people need to work on their communication skills and by doing it quality of life could also be improved. 3.
