The motivation behind why it was hard for kiswana to identify with her mom was basically distinction in the qualities. ... Kiswana neglects to perceive the pith of her in all her years. Kiswana moving out of her folks and living in an alternate area confirms this (Wilson 23). Lack of regard is the significant reason for clashes among moms and their little girls. It is the job of guardians to let their kids live in reality with regards to their genuine characters. Kiswana’s mother quieted Kiswana somewhere near telling her of her unique name. The chief elements influencing mother-girl connections incorporate recognition, conduct, and assorted requests (Almond 57). Female guardians living with their kids need to defeat clashes regardless of what choices they attempt to make. Clashes obstruct positive relations among guardians and their kids (explicitly moms and the young lady youngster). Girls regularly gripe about their moms in all exercises that they attempt to embrace. Moms have grouped assessments concerning impression of little girls. For example, a few moms imagine that little girls don't show them (moms) enough regard. Others state that little girls only sometimes tune in to their moms. At long last, others need satisfactory opportunity to go through with them (moms). Moms are as yet worried about improving their relationship with their little girls. Generational clashes among moms and girls take various structures. Clashes might be because of the age hole, humanizing decent variety, and social class. For example, Kiswana contended with the mother in light of moving out of Linden Hills to Brewster and activating individuals to frame an inhabitants association. As indicated by Kiswana’s mother, the association was pointless, as it prompted expanded strain between Black Americans and White Americans. In this way, present day moms should sustain their little girls to impact their daughters’ method of living

Should We Use More Environmentally Friendly Ways For...

Hunter Akemon English Period 5 Mrs. Teacher The world in general, and especially in the United States, consumes a lot of energy. This has been known for a very long time. We have used fossil fuels, nuclear power plants, and other traditional means to make energy. Recently, many parties, including environmentalist parties, have said that we should use more environmentally friendly ways to produce energy. Which solution is right is debatable, but one thing is certain: Finding a solution to the problem is critical. There are many arguments and points to each side of this debate. Some argue that alternative power sources, or green energy, like windmills and solar panels are the best method to use. Others would say that the infrastructure already in place to harvest fossil fuels and take advantage of water using dams is the best option. However, I think that the United States should do more to actively develop and use â€Å"green energy† as this option, though expensive, is the most conservatively responsible option. For instance, while some would say that solar energy take up too much space and ruins the landscape when implemented in large scale, solar panels do provide clean and renewable energy for cities, buildings, and homes. They capture sunlight and generate electricity. Solar panels do not use any fuel or gas, and they do not produce gasses that can ruin the fresh air we breathe. Four Critics’ Perspective of Theodore Roethkes Elegy for...

Four Critics’ Perspective of Theodore Roethkes Elegy for Jane More than forty years after her untimely death, Jane Bannick breathes again--or so it seems while reading about her. Janes unfortunate death in an equestrian accident prompted one of her professors, the poet Theodore Roethke, to write a moving poem, Elegy for Jane, recalling his young student and his feelings of grief at her loss. Opinions appeared almost as soon as Roethkes tribute to Jane, and passages about the poem continue to appear in articles and books. Recent writings by Parini, Ross-Bryant, Kalaidjian, and Stiffler disclose current assessments. According to Parini, Janes death is not the subject of the poem; rather, her death presents an occasion for†¦show more content†¦Roethke describes Jane in terms of flowers and birds; he reveals her joy and sadness through natural things. These earthly things also reveal the speakers sadness at Janes death. Janes lost presence and Roethkes sorrow receive expression through the concrete world. My sparrow, you are not here, Waiting like a fern, making a spiny shadow. The sides of wet stones cannot console me, Nor the moss, wound with the last light (14-17). In the final stanza, Roethke again addresses Jane in the terms of non human endearment as my skittery pigeon (19), but his final expression of loss comes in terms of a unique human relationship: neither father nor lover. Roethke succeeds in capturing an individual person, his feelings for her, and his sense of loss at her death. This poem, one of the best of the few poems in which Roethke tried to capture an individual, according to Ross-Bryant, owes its success to Janes association with nature and the final statement of the poets love (74-75.) According to Kalaidjian, the poem follows patterns used by Walt Whitman and D. H. Lawrence. Roethke follows their patterns of enumerative catalogues in triadic structures or patterns marked by three elements or grammatical forms (23). Stiffler points out that Roethke acknowledged their influence on Elegy for Jane in his essay Some Remarks on Rhythm

Presentation of the Mother Figure in House of Bernarda Alba and House of the Spirits Essay Example For Students

Presentation of the Mother Figure in House of Bernarda Alba and House of the Spirits Essay According to Victoria Secunda, mothers are their childrens role model, their biological and emotional road map, the arbiter of all their relationships . The most prevailing influence anything can have on the child is the influence of the mother. In literature, the archetypal mothers represent fertility, warmth, the protection of home and are very nurturing. However, mothers are not always presented in the role of the archetypal mother. House of Bernarda Alba is a darkly satiric play written in Spain by Federico Garcia Lorca. It criticizes the societys morals on the issue of tradition during a fascistic regime during Spanish civil war. House of the Sprits written by the Chilean author Isabel Allende reflects the political situation of Chile as told through the journal entries of Clara. How do Federico Garcia Lorca and Isabel Allende present the mother figure and what is the significance? Although House of the Spirits and House of Bernarda are both female dominated books with a similar cultural background, their portrayals of the mother figures are extremely different. Bernarda from In House of Bernarda Alba by Federico Garcia, the mother is presented as domineering tyrant who is ignorant of her daughters needs, who is unfit as a nurturing mother. In House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende, although Clara the main mother figure is presented as distant and is if in a world of her own. Both authors present their mothers through tradition, the relationships they have with their children and as representatives of different political beliefs; Bernarda as a fascist ruler and Clara as a liberal. In both texts the mothers ability to be nurturing are seen through their relationships with their children. There is a strong connection between Clara and her daughter, Blanca. Despite the grotesque images of Blanca after her birth, in which she is described as a cruel joke House of the Spirits, Isabel Allende, 101 Blanca is an uglier, hairier child than usual Allende, 101, Clara continues to show her maternal instinct as an archetypal mother to a certain extent. After the birth of her daughter, Clara discovered the joy of being alive Allende, 101 and went everywhere with her little girl Allende. 101. Allende manages to gain reader sympathy for Clara by making her have many aspects of the archetypal mother. However, Bernardas distant relationship with Adela shows does not create reader sympathy. Allende also uses diction to present the mother figures, seen as she mainly uses dialogue to emphasize conflict or other forms of tension. However, the dialogue used between the females and by mostly by Clara is more peaceful and understanding which emphasizes her maternal feelings. As opposed to Claras daughter, Bernardas daughters reveal that Bernarda is unfit as a nurturing mother, revealing Lorcas satire of the maternal female stereotype. Her daughters were always were both physically and verbally always arguing House of Bernarda Alba, Federico Garcia, 183. Also, Bernardas unstable relationship with her daughters reflects Lorcas satire of the mother-child and political relationship, since Bernarda is seen as a mother and as a dictator. Her failure as a mother also shows that Through tradition the mother figures are also presented. Bernarda is focused on keeping tradition and enforcing her views to any extent. This behavior of hers is representative of the Fascist leaders in Spain, who also control the lives of their people. Bernarda became blind and ignorant of her daughters needs by keeping them under her fascist rule. Throughout the play, the setting has been very lifeless which is shown through the lack of extravagant furniture and the white walls. This contrasts to the house on the corner which had many passages that reflects the complexity of Claras character. White is symbolic of purity and cleanliness and emptiness. All of these features are descriptive of the life the daughters of Bernarda are forced to lead. In fact, the family name Alba means white. White is a very traditional colour, ironically the frequent use of white in the setting reflects the fascist rule Bernarda has kept her daughters under. .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 , .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .postImageUrl , .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 , .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421:hover , .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421:visited , .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421:active { border:0!important; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421:active , .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421 .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u59e7bf9e938ec09474ff922dfdb20421:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Compare the two poems â€Å" 'Boy driving his father to confession' by Seamus Heaney and 'Praise song for my mother' by Grace Nichols EssayAlso, the white colour is a sharp contrast to the black dress of the women in mourning as they enter the stage. The white of the walls serves to exaggerate the black of their dresses. It seems to the reader that they are only wearing the mourning shrouds to observe tradition and that it is not really reflective of their actual feelings. Through the complexity of the mothers and how nurturing they are either reader judgment or sympathy is created. The reader feels no sympathy towards Bernarda since she refuses to accept the truth and re mains ignorant until the end of the play. Bernarda gains no insight towards the end of the play. Her blindness still causes her to ignore her daughters death but focus more on keeping tradition, through her repetition of ring the bells twice, my daughter died a virgin Lorca, 211. It is clear to the reader that Adela did not die a virgin and since Bernarda refuses to accept the fact, causes the reader to judge her. Bernardas lack of motherly affection causes Adela to rebel and leads to her eventual death. However, since House of Bernarda Alba is a short play, Bernarda is not that physiologically developed as the characters in House of the Spirits, therefore the reader does not know what had affected her to behave in such a manner. If Lorca had given some background on Bernarda the reader may have felt a different way. Clara on the other hand while being lost in the realm of the supernatural she is able to support her child and give her the ability to nurture her own daughter as well. However, because Clara is constantly in a world of her own and does not pay attention to the things happening around her, this causes the reader to judge her, creating reader tension. Although she may not be as nurturing, she does provide her children with emotional support. As opposed to House of the Bernarda Alba, the reader knows Claras background and why she is constantly lost in her own world, therefore reader conflict is created. The effects of Claras death emphasize how important she has been even at the moments when her presence was not actively felt. The wilting of the flowers House of the Spirits, Isabel Allende, 280 and the death of the plants represent her subtle presence as the life force of the family. The description of Clara during her life suggests that she herself probably did not remember to water the plants on a regular basis. Clara did however talk to the plants and flowers and cared for their well being. Clara had cared for all living things, although she may have temporarily forgotten, about them she still provided them with care. The deterioration of the house as a whole after Claras passing demonstrates, how nurturing her presence was. In each of the books the characters represent a different political opinion. Bernarda and Clara represent opposite opinions of the political system. Bernardas domineering tyrannical nature represents the fascistic leader of Spain, while Clara represents the more liberal opinion. The oppression of her daughters causes them to rebel and although there are no men introduced in the play, they become dependent on them. Also, since Bernarda behaves like a man it could explain why the daughters become so dependent and afraid of men. They are too afraid to rebel against their mother, other than Adela, because they have become dependent on her wealth. On the other hand, in House of the Spirits Clara is seen as the liberal, rebel figure. Her refusal to speak Allende, 28, which was first motivated by fear, is seen as her assertion of her individuality. .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 , .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .postImageUrl , .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 , .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0:hover , .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0:visited , .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0:active { border:0!important; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0:active , .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0 .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u536379976aca1fd1f9ad35c1c591fdb0:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Direct Act 3 Scene 5 of 'Romeo and Juliet' from Enter Mother (Lady Capulet below) to the end of the scene EssaySilence is her form of passive aggressiveness and a method of inner reflection and healing, although it is not seen as normal it is a form of her rebellious character. In conclusion House of Bernarda Alba and House of the Spirits provide the reader with different roles mothers can play and the effects that they have on their children. By the end of the play Bernarda is still ignorant of her daughters needs, despite the fact that one of her daughters had died because of her ignorance. She gains no insight towards the end of play which provides no hope for the reade r. The ending seems to be unresolved because Bernarda continues to be a repressive force within the household, as seen in when the play ends with her yelling silence House of Bernarda Alba, Federico Garcia, 211 showing that there is still chaos within in the household. However, in House of the Spirits, despite that Clara had died before the book had ended there is a resolution, the reader is shown that all conflicts are resolved and that there is hope for the characters. The House of the Spirits mainly depicts the growth of the feminine consciousness over many generations. Allendes mother figures do not fit societys stereotypical expectations and they are uniquely strong. They are able to emotionally and spiritually provide for their children and also are able to gain insight on their lives by escaping societys harshness through their relationships. As Erich Fromm once said the mother-child relationship is paradoxical and, in a sense, tragic. It requires the most intense love on the mothers side, yet this very love must help the child grow away from the mother, and to become fully independent.

Leila Khaled Freedom Fighter or Terrorist

Introduction It is usually easy to regard any forceful and violent behaviour as an act of terrorism rather than a cause of justice, this is normally true when extreme actions are used to voice plights of a community. A case of a Palestinian woman named Leila Khaled is analysed.Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Leila Khaled: Freedom Fighter or Terrorist? specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This essay elaborates her intentions with the support of academic sources and her movie in order to demonstrate her cause of action as a freedom fighter for her country and not a terrorist as perceived. Khaled extreme actions were inspired by suffering Palestinians in their tents. This essay therefore analyses Khaled cause as a freedom fighter and not a terrorist. Leila Khaled a freedom fighter Leila Khaled has strong basis to support her claims as a freedom fighter rather than a terrorist despite her extreme actions. In 1969, Khaled and another male companion decided to hijack a TWA plane from Los Angeles in route via Tel Aviv. Their intention was not to harm the passengers but rather voice their grievances. According to Eager (2008, p.186) Khaled clearly states that her intentions of hijacking planes was driven by her urge to attract international attention which had not been addressed as thousands of Palestinians languished in tents. From her intentions, it would be wrong to dismiss her actions as a mere act of terrorist. It should however be considered cause to liberate Palestinians. If indeed her intent was to inflict pain on innocent people, she could have blown up the plane with the passengers onboard as terrorists did in the U.S. during the September 11 incident. As Khaled sat while hijacking the TWA plane she saw young children sited in the palms of their parents. She was concerned about the consequences that her actions could cause in case the plan backfired and the plane exploded as a res ult of the explosives that her male companion had. While she was still meditating on her thought, she recalled what thousands of other Palestinians children underwent while in camps. She was then convinced to let the world acknowledge their grievances through any means that she could master. In the end, Khaled succeeded by landing the plane and allowing the passengers to leave before blowing up the plane. This incident attracted the attention of the international community and thus making her a strong female figure among the Palestinians and other women worldwide. She consequently became a sex icon not only for her cause but for other revolutionaries that were making their concerns known worldwide.Advertising Looking for critical writing on political sciences? As noted by Buxton and Provenzo (2010, p. 66) Leila Khaled was the first female activist who used extreme tactics to get the world’s attention on the plight of the Palestinians. Despite her actions and other several attempts to hijack planes that eventually led to her arrest and later released as a result of hostage exchange, Khaled altered the world’s image women. Although her actions tainted her image and Palestinians image during that period, her actions had indeed spoken to the world about the plight of Palestinians during their conflict with the Jews in early 1960’s. Based on these fundamental facts, the actions of Khaled have not in any way created a bad image to the Palestinians but rather ensured that their cries were heard by the international community (Martin, 2009, p. 70). As stated by Eager (2008, p.186) Khaled also explains her intentions in her book titled My People Shall Live. This book seeks to clear the air on her intentions i n the cause of her revolution. On the contrary Martin, (2009, p. 70) believes that Leila Khaled is a violent extremist as a result of her actions; she is considered a political activist with extreme and terrorist behaviors. More so, she seems to have created a foundation for other freedom figher who have committed terrorist acts by blowing themselves in order to die with passengers. Khaled has however genuinely distanced herself from such individuals and such actions. It can thus be genuinely considered that her cause was the motivation behind her extreme actions and not terrorism intentions. Conclusion As evident from the above analysis, it is clear that Khaled is not a terrorist but rather a freedom fighter despite using extreme tactics to get the attention of the international community. Her actions were a result of the international community failing to hear Palestinians cries from their tents. More so, the Palestinians image has not been damaged as a result of Khaled actions, h er actions achieved her goal of getting the world’s attention to the plights of many Palestinians. Without her extreme actions, the world could not have recognised the sufferings of Palestinians. References Buxton, C. A., Provenzo, E. F. (2010). For On Est Allé, Agreement is Optional

For On Est Allà ©, Agreement is Optional Mistakes will always be made in French, and now you can learn from them. When you want to say we went or   they went in French, you dont have to use the French subject pronouns nous or ils/elles.  You can choose to use the indefinite subject pronoun on. Its always conjugated in the third person singular, and it may or may not agree with the subject it replaces or any adjectives present. Using on as an informal replacement for these plural subject pronouns, there are actually two options: Either the past participle allà © agrees in gender and number with the plural masculine pronoun that on replaces, or it doesnt. Actually, you can choose either. Agreement is optional. Both forms are correct Both on est allà © AND on est allà ©s are correct.  Its your choice. The French pronoun on is a little strange. It literally translates to the indefinite one as in one shouldnt do that, but it can also mean we, you, they, or people in general. One often hesitates over agreement when on replaces a plural. Since on has to take the third person singular form of the verb, it might seem as though agreement should also be singular. In other words, no agreement. In fact, agreement with whatever subject on replaces is optional. Either way is correct.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Nous sommes allà ©s au cinà ©ma. / On est allà © au cinà ©ma. / On est allà ©s au cinà ©ma.  These all mean: We went to the movies. They are all correct.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Sont-elles prà ªtes ? / Est-on prà ªt ? / Est-on prà ªtes ? These all mean: Are they ready? They are all correct. What Is On? 1. On  (listen) is the indefinite pronoun and literally means one. Its often equivalent to the English  passive voice.   Ã‚  Ã‚  On ne devrait pas poser cette question.  Ã‚  Ã‚  One shouldnt ask that question.   Ã‚  Ã‚  On demande : caissier.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Cashier wanted.      On ne dit pas à §a.  Ã‚  Ã‚  That isnt said.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ici on parle franà §ais.  Ã‚  Ã‚  French is spoken here. 2. On  is also an informal replacement for we, you, they, someone, or people in general.   Ã‚  Ã‚  On va sortir ce soir.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Were going out tonight.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Alors les enfants, que veut-on faire  ?  Ã‚  Ã‚  OK kids, what do you want to do?   Ã‚  Ã‚  On dit que ce resto est bon.  Ã‚  Ã‚  They say that this restaurant is good.   Ã‚  Ã‚  On a trouvà © mon portefeuille.  Ã‚  Ã‚  Someone found my wallet.   Ã‚  Ã‚  On est fou !  Ã‚  Ã‚  People are crazy!   Ã‚  Ã‚  On ne sait jamais.  Ã‚  Ã‚  You never know. Agreement With On There are two related debates about whether  agreement  is required with the subject implied by  on: 1.  Adjectives: In  on est content  (we/they are happy OR someone is happy), should the adjective agree?  Ã‚  Ã‚  feminine:  On est contente.  Ã‚  Ã‚  plural:  On est contents.  Ã‚  Ã‚  feminine plural:  On est contentes.2.  ÃƒÅ tre verbs: In  on est tombà ©Ã‚  (we/they/someone fell), should the past participle agree?  Ã‚  Ã‚  feminine:  On est tombà ©e.  Ã‚  Ã‚  plural:  On est tombà ©s.  Ã‚  Ã‚  feminine plural:  On est tombà ©es. There is no real consensus, so heres my opinion:  On  is a neuter singular pronoun, so there shouldnt be agreement, but its really up to you...or your French teacher.   Additional Resources On:  indefinite subject pronounOn vs. lonAgreement

MBA in Finance Personal Statement Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

MBA in Finance - Personal Statement Example Like most other individuals of my age, I had been directed towards completing tasks mechanically. Little had I known that I had been drawn towards engineering. However, to my disappointment, I could not make it to Embry Riddle University as I could not clear the engineering exam for that. Nevertheless, I was determined to move forward in life. Behind an ardent reader, I had been inspired by Einstein’s quote of playing the ‘game’ of life better than anyone else. Considering that it was now time to chart my career path, I decided to enhance my knowledge of finance. In doing so, I came across reading several books such as articles in the Economist magazine. Even though I could not make much sense out of them at that time, they were instrumental in my success at university later on. This eventually led me to studying Finance at UT in the USA where I developed interest in the subject in a short frame of time. During this period, I greatly improved my analytical, writin g and numerical skills. From making investment decisions to solving managerial problems, the baggage I carried in this field was quite comprehensive. My experience at UT was further enhanced by my earlier diploma in English Language in Orlando which was my first step in to the diverse and multicultural world. Even though I had travelled to various places previously, such as Europe, North America, Africa and Asia for vacations, never had I encountered as a diverse a place as the U.S.A. This short educational experience  Ã‚ has developed my cross-communication skills which are necessary for survival for any profession in the modern workplace. Furthermore, my experience at UT as a Finance student has helped me relate finance with everyday life. Previously I perceived finance as a strictly specialized and confined domain. However, by studying the real-life applications of finance I was able to relate theory with practice. Most importantly, I could relate most of the concepts to the recent financial downturn which turned around the economies of most advanced nations such as U.K and U.S. I was able to understand how most economies work and how the public and government policies jointly determine the state of economy in most countries. Even though I still endeavor to understand complex financial models and theorems, I do not have much difficulty in understanding the conceptual content and application. In the contemporary age of advanced information systems, I believe the competitive advantage of a Finance professional does not lie in the reproduction of models or calculations but the conceptual analysis and interpretation of those in the context of real-life scenarios. Considering that I had been an out-station student studying in UT in U.S.A, I have gained insight into the demands of an academic and professional life. Since I was in-charge of everything and had to do everything on my own, I learnt to take my own initiatives and gradually became independent. The demanding commitments to academics further taught me how to organize my study schedule and in no time I learnt how to communicate with my peers. This also provided a tremendous platform for my personal growth as I learnt how to strike a balance between personal and academic life. I was much clearer regarding my goal (of pursuing a career in finance) and was determined to enhance my horizon of learning by taking a giant leap into a well-reputed college for my Masters. However, I

Reactivity of M-C bonds and catalytic formation of heterocycles Essay

Reactivity of M-C bonds and catalytic formation of heterocycles - Essay Example This branch deals with the synthesis, properties and application of heterocyclic compounds and their derivatives. Heterocyclics are largely categorized as unsaturated and saturated heterocyclics, depending on their structures(Pfaltz&Drury, 2004). The saturated heterocyclics have been noticed to behave like their acyclic derivatives. The core focuses of heterocyclic compound studies are the unsaturated derivatives of 5- and 6- membered rings, their applications and their predominance of low-numbered rings. Among the 5- and 6-membered unsaturated heterocyclics are pyridine, thiophene, pyrrole and furan. Similarly studied to a large extent are benzene-fused rings of these 5- and 6- membered unsaturated heterocyclics(Nakamura et al., 1998). These benzene-fused derivatives are quinoline, benzothiophene, indole, and  benzofuran for pyridine, thiophene, pyrrole, and furan respectively. The following are structures of a heterocyclic and a homocyclic compounds namely pyridine, a heterocycli c and cyclo-octasulfur, a homocyclic compound. From the structures of these compounds it is evident that the C-H bond is quite important in their reactions. In fact, it is the activation of this C-H bond that allows for the formation and introduction of other functionality groups/bonds such as M-C or C-C bonds to heterocyclic compounds(Benudhar et al., 2013). Pyridine Cyclo-octasulfur, The core theme in organometallic chemistry is the construction and transformation of metal-carbon bonds. Consequently, most of researches and literatures seem to focus on the traditional M-C bonds formed using the tetravalent carbon bond. However, fewer researchers have concentrated on non-traditional M-C bonds, often referred to as M-C cage bonds, which are found in carborane cages in which the carbon is hypervalent(Nakamura et al., 1998). This paper explores the reactivity of M-C bonds and outlines a plan for the catalytic formation of heterocyclics via the catalytic activation of the M-C bond. Spec ifically, the aim of this paper is the synthesis of some ligands that contain heterocycles or vinyl groups that can undergo C-H activation to form cyclometallated complexes(Benudhar et al., 2013). Further, the paper investigates the reactivity of the cyclometallated complexes with alkynes and alkenes. Thus, the goal is to assess the relative reactivity of different types of M-C bonds. One of the methods used in the catalytic synthesis of heterocycles is the amphibilic metal ligand activation (AMLA). In the AMLA process, the steps in the activation of the C-H bond entail the use of an electrophilic metal in combination with a deprotonation using an intramolecular base, frequently acetate. Chiral ligands are chemical compounds adapted for and largely used in the asymmetric synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. Chiral ligands are pure organic enantiomers that combine with metallic centers through the process of chelation to yield asymmetric catalysts(Nakamura et al., 1998). It is this c atalyst that later engages in the chemical reaction in which the chirality of a ligand is transferred to the product of the reaction. That is, while initially the ligand is chiral, at the end of the reaction, it is the product, which is chiral. In model situations or reactions, one equivalent catalyst

Mock Trial Closings Essay Example for Free

Mock Trial Closings Essay The closing argument is the last piece of a mock trial, essentially the last time you get to sell your case to the jury. During the closing argument, you are summarizing and putting together everything the jury has already heard during the trial. You are basically clarifying everything presented in the trial from showing the relevance of a particular witness to showing how everything you’ve presented comes together to prove your case. It is one of the most important parts of mock trial, mainly because the jury listens. It is the last chance to convince the judges of your case, to show you are more skilled than your opponent, and get the perfect 10 you’re hoping for because they are the last words the jury will hear from your team. It can make your case, or break it, thus delivery is very important. Writing the Closing Theme An important part of a great closing is the theme. It will tie your case together in a pretty ribbon that will stay in the juries mind. It will be the same theme from the opening, one that runs through your entire case, and in the closing reminding the jury of your case with the catchy phrase or sentence. Structure 1)Introduction: Begin with a short introduction that catches the jury’s attention. It should remind the judges of the big picture. If it’s a murder trial, talk about how tragic it is that this person’s life was taken away. If it’s a civil trial you can speak about how the person’s rights were violated. Also be sure to introduce your theme during the introduction. 2)Burden of Proof: Explain what your burden is and what your role is in relation to it. Tell the judges exactly how you’ve met the burden or how the opposing counsel has failed to met this burden. In addition, frame the burden of proof in your favor. 3)Law: Tell the judges about each element of the charge. Explain whether or not you have proved or disproved each element, or whether it is enough to prove or disprove any one element. Then make a roadmap. Tell the judge that to prove your burden/undermine your opponents case, you are to prove x, y, and z. 4)Argument: This is the meat of your case. This is where one by one you are going to signpost and tell the judge exactly what you are talking about. Example: â€Å"Now let’s look at X†. X, Y, and Z should not be your three witnesses but parts of the law that you need to prove or disprove. Remind your judges of testimonies/evidence from the trial that adds up to show X. Do this for all points. Its important to remember it should be based around the law. Don’t go witness by witness recounting the evidence. 5)Conclusion: Sums everything up. Restate how you’ve met your burden of proof through x, y, and z. Use your theme once more to tie everything together. Ask for a verdict. Remember to be this strong, convincing and memorable.

Sydney Tar Ponds Essay -- Environmental Disaster

In 1901, an Boston based invertor group opened up a steel mill on the southeast side of Sydney harbor in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This mill was named DISCO, or Dominion Iron and Steel Company Limited, which was ultimately a subsidiary of DOMCO, or the Dominion Coal Company Limited. DOMCO coal was mined in Dominion, near Glace Bay and was used to make coke. Coke is a hard, grey, porous material, man-made from the coal and is used to fuel the blast furnaces for smelting the iron ore. (Coke (fuel), 2012) DOMCO along with DISCO merged with the Nova Scotia Steel and Coal Company or SCOTIA to from the British Empire Steel Corporation or BESCO in 1920. The company soon reorganized and in 1930 under the name Dominion Steel and Coal Corporation or DOSCO. In 1957 it was purchased by Toronto based aircraft manufacturing company, A.V. Roe Canada and in 1962 was once again sold, this time to Hawker Siddeley Canada, where it become a subsidiary. (Sydney Steel Corporation, 29) Hawker Siddeley ran the company smoothly until 1965 when they decided to eliminate all money moving operations. It was also around this time that it was announced that there were only around 15 operational years left for the Sydney coalmines and that after this opening new mines would be too expensive and that DOSCO would be getting out of the coal mining industry. The Sydney mill was very outdated compared to other mills in western and central Canada at this time. After an outcry for Cape Breton County residence, Prime Minister Lester B. The effects of Performance on Audience

Music soothes and relaxes the mind of audiences. It is one way of showcasing talent and at the same time give entertainment. An exquisite performance can eventually bring audiences to a moment of joy or sorrow. It depends upon the performer’s capability and musical knowledge. One can easily transform a beautiful mood into something bad when the performance is atrocious. On the other hand a pleasant performance can negate the sadness and anger of an audience. A good performance is not only the ability to convey the music’s notated structure but also the emotional metadata of the piece. Overall performance is assessed by how the audience goes out of the performance hall. If they go out wearing a smile, it means that the performance was a success. On the contrary, crumpled faces of the audiences will mean failure of the performance. It is vital for performers to know who their target audiences are. This way the chances of having negative outcome will be prevented. The performance will also determine if the quality of music and the message that the performer wanted to imply is grasp wholeheartedly by the audience. The goal of every performance is to catch the audience attention and at the same time absorb the theme or message as a whole. Although there are performance for a cause, the main point of having a performance is to keep the crowd alive and in union with the performer. A boring performance will eventually lead to audience walk out. It is also important for the performance to be adaptive to the audience. This way the listener’s musical interest is kept intact. The effects of performing on audience also boost the confidence and moral of the performer. A performer who stands in front of a crowd lively and intelligently assures that the flow of the performance is best. More audiences may trigger the performer’s nervousness and stage fright but this is the usual feeling of performers. After having performed many times, the performer will get use with the feeling and sees himself/herself not afraid anymore. Performing on audience also helps in looking for positive and negative traits of the performer. It will be based on the feed backs after the show which is given by jurors if it is a competition or by critics if it is just a program, concert r performance. Over all the effect of performing on audience is to know what makes the performer stand out and what needs to be improved. A performer’s attitude is also seen when performing before audiences. This is on how he/she relates with the kind of crowd. There are instances that the performance is held on a strange place and it is for the performer to adjust to the environment and continue the show without getting distracted and keeping his/her focus. Regardless of who your audiences are, you are compelled to perform with the best of your abilities. Performers often finds themselves having goose bumps and cold feelings upon seeing audiences but then it will also make them more motivated to perform. Performing also inhibits positivism on the performance and the perception of musical expression by the performer.

Database Security And Protection, Sql Injection...

Database security and protection is a significant concern for organizations across the world, evidenced by the number of reported incidents with regards to unauthorized exposure to sensitive information. As the amount of data that organizations collect, retain and share continues to escalate, so does the importance of having a strong database security. The Privacy Rights Clearinghouse, a website that keeps track of data breaches that were reported by companies, according to its research more than 159 million records were breached in 2015 through the course of 226 separate breach events. With the loss of unprotected data, can result in steep expenses for a company such as legal fees, call centers, customer losses, and the ambiguous amount of bad publicity. A Forrester Research survey concluded that an average security breach can cost a company between $90 and $305 per lost record. Given the increase number of data breaches, there is a corresponding need to properly plan ways to better protect and monitor the database systems through access control, SQL injection prevention, and encryption of data. Access control allows specific users either privileges or restriction of access to objects in a database system. Notes On The Messiah And The Psalms By Richard P. Belcher Jr.

Introduction This forum post presents the Christological Approach to the Psalms and then describes the five major categories of Psalms relating to Jesus the Messiah: the (1) Royal Psalms, (2) Typological – Prophetic Psalms, (3) Prophetic – Typological Psalms, (4) Prophetic – Messianic Psalms, and (5) Eschatological Psalms. Christological Approach to the Psalms The Christological Approach to the Psalms is presented and described by Richard P. Belcher Jr. in his book The Messiah and the Psalms: Preaching Christ from all the Psalms. The Christological Approach to the Psalms is based on the hermeneutical principle Jesus taught in Luke 24:26-27, 44-47. Jesus, following his resurrection, was walking with two disciples and explained to them â€Å"These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled† (Luke 24:44). The principle is that all the Old Testament can be viewed as relating to Jesus not just those passages that directly address Jesus as Messiah. Given the Christological Approach to the Psalms, the five categories of the Psalms can be discerned. The information on the five categories of Psalms is summarized from materials presented by Dr. Gary Yates. Royal Psalms A Royal Psalm is about the historical king of that day but these Psalms also point to Jesus the Messiah. As a result, Royal Psalms are indirectly Messianic. According C. Hassell Bullock

International Business for Multinational National Corporation.

Question: Discuss about theInternational Businessfor Multinational National Corporation. Answer: Introduction With increased globalisation, there is an increase in the number of multinational companies expanding in the overseas regions. For developing the global economies, these MNCs play a vital role as they are the intermediaries are involved in international businesses. Multinational National Corporation or a MNC can be defined as a big corporation with considerable resources which undertake several business functions by the means of a network of associated subsidiaries which are established in various overseas regions. These MNCs analyse and evaluate the potential markets specifically in the overseas regions which can offer them high revenues, sales, brand recognition and sustainability. But expanding in other countries is not an easy job. Along with the opportunities and advantages, there are several challenges and risks which are associated with international businesses (Delios, 2012). The essay will focus upon one of the recognized MNC i.e. PETRONAS which is planning to expand its bus iness and roots in Iraq. Such global expansion comprises of numerous challenges which the company will have to face. The essay will also highlight the key arguments and discussion relating to the host country Iraq, the decisions related to foreign strategies and the impacts and contributions of the international businesses. Key Challenges for an MNC in the IB arena Petroliam Nasional Berhad, better known as PETRONAS is petroleum, gas and oil based MNC which is established in Malaysia. In the year 1974, the organization was grounded and owned by the Malaysian Government. It is recognized as the Malaysian national gas and Oil Company. With the efforts and efficient leaderships of its owners and the key persons, the organisation has successfully transformed in an international business entity via numerous joint ventures with partners in overseas countries and through exploration. With huge focus and efforts, presently the organisation stand among the worlds 25 top MNCs and has its business operation in around 35 nations with almost 103 wholly owned subsidiaries. For analyzing the status of the organization, there is a globalization theory called Theory of Liberalism (PETRONAS, 2017). It is the globalization process which is a result of modernization and it leads to market extension. At the basic level, as per this theory, the globalization in the organisation is for achieving political liberty and economic welfare. According to the liberalism theory of globalization, PETRONAS has practiced globalization in business for achieving technological advancements and business expansion in overseas regions. The primary work and operations of oil exploration of PETRONAS is performed in the nations like Iraq. Therefore it is one of the countries where PETRONAS as a MNC will expand and undertake its operational activities. But from the analysis point of view it can be understand that Iraq has several factors which restrict the successful business operations of PETRONAS (Elass and Jaffe, 2011). From the political point of view, it can be critically analyzed that there is political instability in the country as well as severe war probabilities which restricts the organisations performing businesses in these regions. In Iraq, there are extensive variations in the income levels of the individuals. But because of the high reserves of crude oil and the increased GDP, the nation is attracted by several oil and gas companies (Green, 2011). The key religion follows in Iraq is Islam, there are also present sizeable religious minorities in various regions of the country but Islam is the prominent one . There are several key challenges which are related to environmental analysis of Iraq. The first primary challenge is the political risk associated with Iraq (Subramaniam, et al., n.d.). There is a threat of nationalization in the country as at the time of economic crisis, governments used to opt out for exchange rate controls. The risk of war is very high in Iraq because of several fact ors and expanding operation in such arena of war can troublesome the sustainability and success of the organization. The acts related to sequestrations and assassinations may result in trade barriers for international business of PETRONAS. There are also other key challenges such as changes in the trade barriers. It is one of the reasons which make a company less competitive in nature. There is a possibility that the tariffs and other barriers can be increased because of the instable political condition. Thus, it can impact the smooth functioning of the business operations (Zawawi, Rahman and Atan, 2013). From the economic point of view, the key challenge of performing business in Iraq sounds to be much expensive in comparison with other Middle East countries. There are high transaction, trade and transportation costs in Iraq which doubles the costs of operations in the country. In the regions of Iraq, there are high expenses associated with Iraq because of the fact that there is a significant rise in the cost for obtaining a name reservation certificate (Hussain, 1999). As well as the costs of the lawyers area also very high but there is a demand of them for the drafting of the articles of association. The next key challenge in the rate of corruption, Iraq is highly recognized for its increasing corruption rate and corruptive practices. Because of increase corruption, the businesses i.e. the MNCs are required to have high capital for meeting u[p all the costs of expansion and trade (Delios, 2012). According to the Porters Diamond Model, there are five key factors which can be taken use of for analyzing the countrys external environment. There will be understanding of the various key challenges which appears in front of MNCs while planning to expand globally. The model helps in understanding the competitive advantages and risks possessed by the nation. There are basically four factors in the Porters Diamond Model i.e. factor conditions, demand conditions, related supporting industries and firm rivalry, structure and strategy. As per the first factor i.e. firm strategy, structure and rivalry, Iraq is well recognized in the petroleum, oil and gas industries. There are several technological innovations in the nation as these are the primary business sectors. But there is a key challenge for PETRONAS as there are increased and intense levels of firm rivalry because of extreme competition as there are several companies which perform oil exploration (Eicher, 2016). Thus, PETRONAS can achieve competitive advantages because of brand recognition but it will be difficult for the company to sustain the competition. The second factor is related supporting industries, as per this factor the suppliers and other related organisations are also vital for the organisation which is planning to expand its business. The primary business industry of Iraq is crude oil only; therefore, the oil and gas and petroleum industry has numerous firms and suppliers (Wei, 2015). There are several innovative ideas which these firms have invented for the development of the industry and the business. There is exchange of ideas between all the business, it is beneficial for PETRONAS but at the same time it is challenging also as because of the historical presence of the domestic companies, therefore there are more innovative and effective ways with the competitors. Thus, it will become difficult for PETRONAS to match the effectiveness of the domestic players. The third factor is demand condit ions, it refers to the size of the market, various costs such as transportation, etc. and economies of scale. The transportation costs are high in Iraq as well as the size of the home market is also not so wide (Al-Fattah, 2013). PETRONAS is a very large organisation which works on large economies of scale. All these factors are challenging for the company and it will be difficult for the organisation to manage its operations in Iraq with all such domestic factors. The fourth factor is the factor conditions, it comprises of elements such as capital investments, infrastructure, technological innovation and availability of skilled labor. From the capital point of view, there are required huge capital investments to have business expansion in Iraq. Presently the unemployment arte is at the weakest point, there is high rate of employment and there are also available competent labors. But the individuals prefer working in public sector only farther than MNCs and private sector. Thus, the availability of labor is an opportunity but squat interest in MNCs may result into lack of efficient labors. The company PETRONAS has taken use of licensing to enter in Iraq. Licensing can be understood as a legal agreement which authorize one organisation to take use of the private business practices of some other organisation. The production practices of the company offers brand recognition as well as revenues. The reason behind taking use of licensing is that there are several advantages and pros of licensing as a foreign market strategy. The advantages gained by PETRONAS includes that it is one of the easiest way to enter in any foreign market as there are no trade barriers because of tariffs and borders in licensing agreements (Cavusgil, et al., 2014). Licensing agreements also requires less capital investments in comparison with other entry strategies, therefore this was also one of the causes for PETRONAS behind selecting licensing. There are also low risks related to legal and financial perspectives and high return on investments in licensing contracts. There are also some of the co nstraints, limitations and drawbacks which are associated with this entry strategy. These constraints give rise to various challenges for the MNC to have operations in the overseas nation (HUSSAIN, n.d.). The constraints includes low level of control on the operations, the licensee in the future run can be a competitor for PETRONAS, there are chances of losing the intellectual property, the time period is also limited of licensing contracts and if the licensee take use of poor management then it may result in inefficiency of operations and deterioration of the brand image of PETRONAS (Ajami, et al., 2014). There are also several international business challenges for PETRONAS which will act as the key barricades in effective operations of the organisation. The first and the primary challenge were related to the foreign regulation and laws. There is a huge difference in Malaysian laws and Iraqi laws. Thus, it became highly challenging for PETRONAS to manage its operations. The second key risk is the political risk. Iraq is highly vulnerable to crisis and wars, it is threatening for the MNCs to initiate and expand their business in the states of Iraq. The third risk is of cultural differences and communication difficulties. In Iraq, the maximum of the population follows Islamic culture and communicate in Arabic language whereas which is much difficult for the employees of PETRONAS to have an effective communication with them because of cultural differences. There are other challenges also such as currency rates, international accounting, environmental issues, etc. (Nordin, Vassekaran and Grover, 2014). There are 10 principles of UN Global Compact which the organisations are required to follow for performing businesses in international regions. In a similar way, PETRONAS also has to follow the same. Therefore, the area on which the company is required to focus on the environmental issues. As oil exploration is highly related to environment. Thus, it must be atmen care that there is no damage on the environment. Secondly, there is also high corruption in Iraq, thus, PETRONAS must adopt anti-corruption practices and wok ethically without indulging in corruptive practices as well as unethical practices of business (Compact, 2011). Conclusion From the essay, kit can be concluded that in present scenario, there are several key challenges and risks which are present for the MNCs while performing international businesses. These challenges are in almost every sector whether political, environmental, economic, etc. therefore, it is essential that a proper analysis of the host country must be performed by the MNCs before expanding business in the foreign nations. PETRONAS is a well recognized organization but as a MNC it has also faced numerous challenges but now it is running smoothly in the overseas regions. And lastly, it is concluded that all the MNCs must follow the UN Global Compact principles while performing international businesses. Automobile in America Essay Example

Automobile in America Essay Example Automobile in America Essay Automobile in America Essay The automobile managed to change American culture dramatically in a short period of time. It allowed many people to move away from the overcrowded, stuffy, and dirty urban areas into less populated places with more space and air. The suburbs were born and single-family houses sprang up to replace the apartment tenements of the cities. People were now able to commute to work and also visit friends and family who lived further away. The automobile was also a hit with the younger crowd, who saw it as a new way to have fun and achieve freedom. The huge demand for cars also boosted the American economy, as the automobile industry was born. The economy in the United States was roaring in the 1920â„ ¢s. Workers became more efficient and very productive. Between 1922 and 1927, the economy grew by 7% a year (Nation of Nations, 6th Edition, Volume II, chapter 24, Pg. 694). Technology was growing and construction companies started building taller and taller towers. The success in all industries was affecting each other in positive ways in a chain. There was an increase in all industries and the industry that boomed the most was the automobile industry. Henry Ford organized mass production in his companies, which led to affordable cars. He also believed in making all the cars to look the same so cost would reduce the cost so buying cars would be affordable. Ford reduced the working hours and days of employees, employed African American people, and gave them respectful positions in his company. He had his employees educated on how to speak and dress properly. Many owned cars and this opened more business for real estate, re staurants, motels etc. (Nation of Nations, 6th Edition, Volume II, chapter 24, Pg. 694-695). From Fords ideas, the car was transformed from a luxury item into a necessity, and this is what made him more successful than any other competitor during that time.
